Chairman of Bright Future Society Mr. Samuel Payara has expressed his reservations over the fact that Union Councils in Lahore are not registering Christian marriages despite the fact that the apex court had ordered them to do so. In this regard, the BFS chief contacted Federal Minister for Human Rights Kamran Michael to take note of blatant defiance of the apex court’s ruling.

Christian marriages not registered in Lahore

Ensuing dozens of complains from Christians, Chairman Bright Future Society and social worker Ernest Faheem Bhatti, had met with the Federal Minister for Human Rights Kamran Michael and briefed him about the situation. They appraised the state of affairs followed by assurance from the Federal Minister for a staunch action against the concerned Union Councils which had been showing reluctance to register Christians’ marriages.

Samuel Payara said that he had paid visit to the Union Councils himself, to find about the set of circumstances surrounding unwillingness of the Union Councils. He claimed that he verified the complaints of Christians and found them authentic as the union councils were actually not registering their marriages.

He said that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had directed National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) along with the provincial governments of Punjab and Balochistan to make arrangements for registration of marriages of Christians. Thus far, no steps have been taken in order to implement the apex court’s ruling, he whined.
