Slavery still exists in Pakistan and one of the Christian women had been enslaved for 25 years
According to the Fides news agency, members of five Pakistani Christian families enslaved by their employers have been released following a court case.
For 25 years, one of the women had been enslaved in a Punjabi.
Nasir Saeed, director of the UK-based Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement, said, “It is sad to see that even in the 21st century slavery, continues to exist in Pakistan.”
Saeed further added “The owners of furnaces are often wealthy and influential and are rarely prosecuted,” Saeed added. “Sometimes they are sold from one furnace to another. The government is aware of the situation, but has never taken serious measures.”
