Many women rights associations in Punjab, especially the National Commission for justice and peace have called out for the review and correction of the ‘Punjab Protection of Women against Violence Act 2015.’
They have demanded that all forms of domestic abuse should be declared criminal. The law had been passed by the government on May 20th 2015. However, the act did not provide the basic definition of domestic violence and also did not include clauses of domestic relationships and domestic work employment, households defining sexual abuse, abutment, mischief, hurt, intimidation, harassment, criminal force, assault, stalking, physical abuse, trespass, psychological abuse, wrongful confinement and vulnerable persons.
The NCJP has labelled the act as a parody of justice and demanded that the law be corrected and domestic violence be dealt with in accordance with the Pakistan Penal Code
