Pakistan Bible Society’s basketball team swimmingly represents Pakistan in Malaysia


Christian sportsmen have successfully represented Pakistan in Malaysia in KOINONIA – Love Pakistan Basketball Tour which started from November 16 and lasted till 27th. Christian basketball team went to Malaysia to participate in basketball matches. This was first time in the history of Pakistan Christian community represented the country abroad.

“It is joy to share great news with you about our Pakistan Basketball Team (Koinonia Love Pakistan). Our emphasis is to help people develop their sports talents and use their recreational time properly on one hand and by their talent glorify God on the other hand by sharing love, peace, harmony and joy of Good News,” stated Irfan Francis Coach/ Team and tour manager- Pakistan Basketball Team (Koinonia Love).

Team players included, Asher Gill (Captain), Saryan Ajmal Alban (Vice Captain) Romeo Raza, Iraj Gill, Aroon David, Shane Saleem, Nadub Akram, Samran Gill, Suleman Yashab, and Shahzeb Pervaiz.

The endeavor is to cultivate spiritual enlightening and physical training for professional purposes to the young Christian sportsmen in Pakistan. Pakistan Bible Society aims to reach out to the youth through the medium of sports and spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “This is a very important part of Pakistan Bible Society to work among youth through sports. It is great to work under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Anthony Aijaz Lamuel, General Secretary, Pakistan Bible Society,” Irfan Francis stated.

This team was formed in 2015, during a Pakistan Bible Society Sports Festival. Team members were selected during the matches organized by the Islamabad Basketball Association, Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) Wah Cant, Khyer Pakhtunkhwa (KPK Province) Basketball Association – Abbottabad and Pakistan Army (Artillery) Attock. These matches were organized in connection with Independence Day of Pakistan. Pakistan Bible Society team won all their matches.

While delineating about the Pakistan Bible Society Basketball team’s tour to Malaysia, Irfan Francis stated that this was the first time when Christian community has served Pakistan through the game of Basketball. He further said the Pakistan Bible Society team’s members also participate in the National Basketball events.

He went on to explain that this was a good will tour which was arranged by Pakistan Basketball Federation, Pakistan Bible Society and Peace Ambassadors Society. Pakistan Bible Society Basketball team played three matches; won one, lost one and third was cancelled due to heavy down pouring.

The tour committee included Col. (R) Nasim Butt, Chief Demission, Adeel Manzar, Deputy Chief Demission, Ajmal Tahir Alban, Team Manager and Coach, Irfan Francis, Tour and Team Manager , Treasurer, Imtiaz Ul Hassan, Referee and Coach, Pervaiz Younis Coach, Akbar Butt, Overseas Coordinator.

During the Malaysia tour, Pakistan Basketball Team (Koinonia Love) called on the FIBA Asia at its office and met with Lt. Col. (R) Lee Kak Kuan, Technical Director, FIBA Asia. Pakistan Bible Society Basketball Team were welcomed and appreciated by the host. At this occasion the guest team also visited the basketball stadium and office of Mr. Dato Yeoh Choo Hock. FIBA Asia also presented a souvenir to the young Pakistan basketball team.
