Pakistan is not just a “piece of land” its our identity says Christian lawmaker

Christian lawmaker William Barkat has stated that non-Muslims had been instrumental in the freedom movement of Pakistan. MPA William Barkat in an Independence Day message said, “Pakistan is our identity,” said MPA William Barkat who hails from the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party.

In an I-Day message MPA William Barkat said that it our responsibility to strive for the betterment of Pakistan. It is our duty to defend our country, he said. He further stated that minorities have played a pivotal role along with the majority during the freedom movement. Role of non-Muslims was inevitable in creation of Pakistan and to realize the vision of Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

William Barkat said that shortly after the creation of Pakistan, Christians had been fundamental in uplifting the education sector of the newly created country. Their services have been spine of the evolvement of Pakistan. “We are ready to lay down our lives, for the progress of Pakistan.”
