Pakistan on US watch list for religious freedom violations

Pakistan showed disagreement when United States stopped its military aid for Pakistani troops. US wanted Islamabad should take strong action in opposition of the terrorist groups known as Afghan Taliban and Haqqani network. This statement was issued on Thursday, right amid the words war between two countries.

United States of America annually designates countries on its special list according to the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. US also rearranged the position of Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

Pakistan on US watch list for religious freedom violations

US Commission on International Religion Freedom report of 2017 noticed that Government of Pakistan continuously executing severe religious freedom violations. This report highlighted the exercise of blasphemy law in the country which caused the death or imprisonment of dozens of religious minorities including Christians, Hindus, Ahmadis and Shia Muslims. Within this week president Donald Trump accused Pakistan for sheltering the terrorists and extremist in the country.

Spokesperson of US state department Heather Nauert said that people around the globe are unjustly persecuted or imprisoned for performing their religious rights.

Foreign officer Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said that US report’s criteria is objective based.

The position of Pakistan on the particular watch list is according to some new category of US criteria. Dr Faisal said that Pakistan would clarify its placement and the basic believes of this report.

The US State department said that religious freedom is important for “peace, stability and prosperity” in the country. It also stated that the positions of the countries mentioned on US special watch list are targeted to show respect towards the freedom of religious expressions.

Dr Faisal said that the US watch list seems ignored the success of Pakistan in the field of human rights. Pakistan is dedicated for the human rights protection as mentioned in its constitution. It also provides religious freedom to its residential, he added.

Pakistan’s spokesperson brought in spotlight its juridical, organized and managerial evaluations from government to make sure the complete execution by its Constitution.

He said that amazingly the countries which have a record of minority persecution in the name of religion are not mentioned in this US watch list therefore this list is biased and have some political rationales behind it.

Foreign Officer Spokesperson Dr Faisal told that Pakistan will keep on working with International body to tell them that Pakistan observes internationally accepted criterion for providing religious freedom to its religious minorities.
