A Pakistani Pastor, denied bail- after being accused of blasphemy.
Kamran Patras was seized on 13th of October, 2012; following a prayer meeting. Reportedly, he held the prayer meeting at a Christian family’s house in Sanghla Hills in Central Punjab. It has been recounted, that he was questioned about the meaning and relevance of a Muslim festival.
International Christian Voice, states that, Pastor Patras said that the feast was not for Christians, quoting Corinthians 10:28-29 which says” But if anyone says to you, ‘This was offered to idols,’ do not eat it for the sake of the one who told you, and for conscience’ sake; for ‘the earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness. ‘Conscience,’ I say, not your own, but that of the other. For why is my liberty judged by another man’s conscience?”
His Muslim audience reported his answers to others, while returning home he was threatened, by Muslim clerics. Rumor has it that, the Muslim clerics, prearranged an agitated mob against Pastor Patras. Police hurried to the scene, and saved Pastor Patras from the hands of angry protesters who had been beating him. Subsequently, he was arrested the same day, under suspicion of committing possible blasphemy.
Patras is currently in jail, where he is being represented by human rights lawyer Tahir Naveed – who also took up the case of the young girl.
