PESHAWAR: Terrorists attack a Pakistan Air Force camp in Badaber area in the outskirt of the KPK capital.

According to media reports, a band of terrorists attacked a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) camp located at Inqalab road in Badaber area in Peshawar earlier this morning. The attack was launched by two groups of terrorists from two directions.

Reportedly, one group of the terrorists tried to engage security troops, whereas the other group wanted to break in the PAF camp. ISPR stated that “terrorists opened fire on Base camp’s mosque and killed 16 Namazis.”A Pakistan military official stated, “All the terrorists were wearing explosive-laden jackets and were armed with hand-propelled grenades, mortars, AK-47 rifles.”

According to the eye-witnesses, around six to seven terrorists who were dressed in black militia uniforms and wearing white shoes launched an attack. Residents near the PAF camp said explosions and gunfire could be heard after more than three hours after the attack was launched.

The moment terrorists attacked, a party of the Quick Response Force reached the PAF camp under attack. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police cordoned off the area, while an exchange of fire took place between the security forces and the militants. Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan spokesperson has claimed responsibility for the attack in an e-mail sent to journalists.

Soon after the news of the attack came, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif reached Peshawar. He visited the Corps Headquarters and while meeting troops participating in the clearance operation. He also met the injured soldiers hospitalised at CMH, Peshawar.While, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman also left for Peshawar. Air Chief Sohail Aman also briefed Prime Minister Nawaz Shareef about the operation in Badaber over the telephone.

At the same time, DG ISPR General Asim Bajwa stated that terrorists had attacked the guard room at the PAF camp early in the morning. The Quick Response Force arrived at the scene and effectively surrounded the attackers, while isolating them. He said that the terrorists were engaged by the Quick Response Force and cornered to a small area around the guard room area of the camp.DG ISPR further stated that all 12 terrorists were killed while 16 people in a mosque inside the PAF camp were killed by the terrorists. An Army officer Captain Asfandyar was martyred during the attack.
