PESHAWAR: Secret agencies carried out a raid on the residence of the Principal of Edwards College.
Officials of the secret agencies conducted a raid on the residence of the Principal Edwards College Peshawar, Titus Presler for the purpose of examining some legal hitches in his travelling documents therefore carrying out investigation about his suspected doubtful activities, dependable sources revealed.
At noon the officials disguised in plainclothes arrived at the principal’s house located inside the famous Edwards College thus taking control of surroundings an eye witness sated. The officials interrogated the principal for about 30 minutes prior to leaving. The Principal was asked to leave the country by a certain time. It wasn’t clear how much time he was given to leave Pakistan, sources stated. Titus Presler, a US national, was appointed as principal in May 2011. Soon after his appointment several arguments emerged in the Edwards College.
However, severe problems arisen relating to his suspected activities in the past wherefore, authorities had reportedly deported him in November 2011. Nevertheless, he continued to occupy the office of principal thus causing inconvenience in the effective administration of the Edwards College. It was only subsequent to the Church attack that he somehow managed to get a visit visa for Pakistan and returned to the country in November last. Nonetheless, on his arrival in Peshawar he also assumed his office without having proper travel documents and work permit, the sources disclosed. Predominantly, the controversy that emerged was granting the degree awarding status to the college, which according to sources was a bid to free the institution for the control of the powerful Board of Governors headed by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and putting it under the charge of the Diocese of Peshawar. His strategy was strictly criticized by one and all. Moreover, he was also criticized for mismanagement in the institution.
What’s more his qualification and experience were also put to question. “His qualification in Christian Theology would not entitle him to teach even in the State secondary institutions in the USA where religious and secular subjects are rigidly separated. The positions held by him in theological seminaries aren’t acceptable in mainstream educational institutions in the same manner like the madrassas in Pakistan. The main thrust of Presler’s theological research is in Christian musicology, which is traditionally about how to win converts to the Christian faith from other religions,” said one source.
