Philippine President utters blatant blasphemy against God


Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has sparked widespread anger among Christians by calling God “stupid”, during his televised speech. During his speech, he criticized Bible’s narrative of Adam and Eve’s fall. He has done this before by uttering provoking remarks against country’s Catholic priests and the Christian faith.

During his speech, he criticized God, saying: “You created some — something perfect and then you think of an event that would tempt and destroy the quality of your work”. He went on to voice his thoughts about Adam and Eve’s fall and their sin and the consequences they faced he said: “I cannot accept that. Very stupid proposition. What sin?”. He ridiculed the Christian practice of baptizing saying: “Original sin and then they will baptize you. Your head will even be washed with holy water. And you’ll even believe that priest”.

In response a Pilipino Catholic Bishop Arturo Bastes called the president a “madman” and urged the believers to pray for him so that his “blasphemous utterances and dictatorial tendencies” may end.”Duterte’s tirade against God and the Bible reveals again that he is a psychological freak, a psychopath, an abnormal mind who should have not been elected as President of our civilised and Christian nation,” Bishop Bastes said.Bishop Ruperto Santos, remarked that the President had crossed a line.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, from the opposition retaliated by describing President Duterte as “one evil man” and his remarks as “very much consistent with the deceitfulness, heartlessness and ruthlessness of his policies”. Senator Panfilo Lacson, said that in the past he had supported some of his policies, however, after the blasphemous utterances against God “to whom I pray every single day and with whom I’ve found solace and comfort in all my difficult times, I don’t even have to think of my choice”.

“May my God forgive him and make him atone for all his sins,” Senator Lacson said. Followed by his blasphemous remarks, President Duterte’s has faced criticism from some of his political allies and supporters.
