PM Sharif urged to denationalize the nationalized Christian Institutions


KARACHI: Pakistan Christian Congress PCC Premier urges Prime Minister to denationalize Christian institutions which were nationalized by Bhutto government in 1971.

In consistency with the details, Dr. Nazir S. Bhatti- Pakistan Christian Congress Chief, has called upon the Nawaz Government to denationalize those Christian Schools, Colleges and Hospitals which were nationalized by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto during his tenure in the year 1971. He further stated that the Missionary Schools, Colleges and Hospitals were nationalized only in Punjab and Sindh; which were strong holds of PPP at that time, while National Awami Party (NAP) of Khan Abdul Wali Khan Government in Khyber Pukhtoon Khawa KPK and Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam of Mufti Mahmood in Balochistan reject the idea of nationalizing missionary schools, colleges and hospitals all together.


Dr. Bhatti went on to say that, “Its on record that only those missionary schools and colleges in Sindh and Punjab were nationalized which were Urdu medium while English medium or convent schools where children of rich Muslims studied were not nationalized.


PCC Chief revealed that the Bhutto Government and Catholic and Protestant Bishops of Pakistan settled down over an agreement according to which their institutions were spared; not to be nationalized however, the Government was obliged to pay rents of those buildings which was never paid by the Bhutto Government or its successors.


Dr. Bhatti pointed out that, during the General Musharraf regime, FC College Lahore was denationalized nevertheless it was relinquish to an American based Presbyterian Church, while few Catholic Schools were handed over to an Irish Catholic organization. Despite the fact, that Murray College Sialkot, Gordon College Rawalpindi, St. Patrick College Karachi and nearly more than Seventy Christian High Schools are still not denationalized still running under the administration of Punjab and Sindh Governments.


Moreoever he said “During different governments of Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto of PML (N) and PPP many government corporations were privatized but non of these regimes ever considered to denationalize Christian Schools, Colleges and Hospitals”


While commenting on insertion of Senator Kamran Michael in Cabinet of Nawaz Sharif, PCC Chief said ” Kamran Michael does not deserves any comments because he is selected by a part Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz group PML (N) which is involved in Muslim mob attacks on Christians in Punjab and valuable land grabbing of “Gosh-e-Aman” in Lahore. Kamran Michael is black spot on his father Mr. Micael,s struggle for Christian rights under leadership of veteran leader Nawabzada Nusrullaha Khan who always favoured election on Christian reserved seats for minorities instead of Selection”


Nazir Bhatti said as a high sign to the Pakistani Christians, the denationalization of missionary schools, colleges and hospitals in Punjab will be ushered in.
