VATICAN: Pope Francis to send a personal convoy to Iraq in solidarity with the Christians of Iraq.
Pope Francis prepares to send a personal envoy to Iraq to show solidarity with Christians who have been expelled from their homes by Islamic militants. Cardinal Fernando Filoni, the Vatican’s ambassador in Baghdad during the Iraqi war, said that the convoy’s aim will be to offer spiritual help to the displaced Christians. However, details of this trip are still being worked out.
In the midst of new raids by Islamic militants in Christian villages of northern Iraq, Pope Francis calls for the international community to take measures to protect Christians from violence.
On Friday Pope Francis tweeted: “Please take a moment to pray for all those who have been forced from their homes in Iraq.”
