On February 4, Saturday a seminar titled “World Interfaith Harmony Week 2017” organized by the “Parliament of the World’s Religions.” This seminar was attended by Diplomats based in Islamabad. The diplomats who participated in this seminar pointed out towards the current security situation all over the world.
Moreover the diplomats while addressing the participants stated that interfaith harmony has become inevitable amidst the current worsening situation worldwide. “It is high time for power of interfaith to work effectively to transform fear, anger and hatred into positive human relationship.”
While addressing the seminar, Ambassador of Poland H.E Piotr Opalinski said that each and every person has the right to exercise his religious belief either at individual or at communal level. He said that individuals should enjoy rights to “worship in public or private, observance, practice and teaching without fear of intimidation, discrimination, violence or attack.” He reiterated that freedom of religion or belief is a fundamental right of every human being.
Additionally, Ms. Marshal Anne, deputy head of European Delegation said that in keeping with the universal and European Union human rights are committed to respecting, protecting and promoting freedom of religion or belief within their borders.
Joao Paulo Sabido Costa, Charged’ Affair of Portugal stated that all the states are obliged to protect all citizens from direct and indirect discrimination on grounds of religion or belief. Additionally, Ambassador of “Parliament of the World’s Religion” Shamim Mehmood stated that confines to religious freedom have to be interpreted along strict lines.
Shamim Mehmood said that religious minorities have been increasingly targeted as a result of the religion based hate. “Faiths do not bind in limits but allows social harmony and mutual tolerance for a better and progressive society. It is need of the day to enhance mutual understanding, harmony and cooperation among people from all faiths,” he added.
