Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has directed the concerned authorities to make sure that there is “zero load shedding” in the country on the occasion of Christmas. On Saturday, December 24, PM Nawaz issued special directions to the Ministry of Water and Power. He said that the concerned authorities must make sure that there is no load shedding in cities and villages on December 25.
He said on Sunday, December 25, there must be load shedding as Christians will be celebrating Christmas. On the other hand, this will be a challenging task for the concerned authorities as due to current foggy weather in the plains; the power situation in the country has further worsened.
On Friday night, several areas in Punjab saw suspension of power due to dense fog. The power suspension caused much nuisance resulting in water shortage as well. In most parts of the country, people are already reeling because of low gas supply which has added to the troubles of people. The MET Office has already predicted for foggy conditions, Foggy conditions are likely to prevail in the plains of Punjab and upper Sindh during night and morning hours.
As Christmas approaches, several Christmas celebratory events have been organized at government and community levels. Yesterday, December 23, President of Pakistan hosted a special Christmas celebrations event at the Presidency in Islamabad.
During his address President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain said that all Pakistanis are equal in the eyes of state, government and law. He went on to declare that the flag of Pakistan is a representation of the Non-Muslim Pakistanis also. He said that religious minorities are being given their due share in all sectors in the country. He asserted Pakistani nation has utterly rejected terrorism and extremism in all of its forms. At the same time President Mamnoon extended his heartiest felicitation to the Christians saying that he wishes them a joyous and peaceful Christmas.
