Bishop Rufin Anthony passes away today October 17, in Rawalpindi. On February 18, 2010 he succeeded Bishop of Islamabad-Rawalpindi. Honorable Bishop Rufin Anthony died at the age of 76 and serving the Lord for almost 30 years.
Bishop Rufin Anthony was born on February 12, 1940 at Khushpur, in Samundari Tehsil of District Faisalabad in Pakistan. He was ordained on June 29, 1969 as Priest of Faisalabad. He became vicar general of Faisalabad diocese in 2005 and was parish priest of Khushpur. On August 4, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI named him Coadjutor for Islamabad-Rawalpindi. Later on September 21, 2009 he was ordained as Coadjutor Bishop of Islamabad-Rawalpindi. On February 18, 2010 he succeeded the Bishop of Islamabad-Rawalpindi.
On March 17, 2012 he was appointed as Apostolic Administrator of Faisalabad and on November 1, 2013 he resigned from this post. Bishop Rufin Anthony has served as formator and spiritual director at St. Pius X Seminary in Quetta and as a professor at the Major Seminary of Christ the King in Karachi.
His ministry includes valuable service as the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Later he also held the position of the Rector of St. Thomas the Apostle Minor Seminary in Faisalabad and the major seminary in Karachi. He was serving as the General Secretary of Pakistan Catholic Bishops’ Conference and Chairmen of Catholic Youth Commission.
