Asia is the first Pakistani woman who has been handed the death penalty sentence under the deadly blasphemy law. Her husband is still pleading the court that his wife had been framed and should be forgiven.

In a ground breaking revelation, Ashiq Masih told Mail Online that even if Asia is released, clerics have placed a bounty on her and want her dead at any cost. They have announced a prize of as low as £60 for anyone who kills her.

The argument that led to the arrest of Asia was that she drank water from the cup of a Muslim co worker and a brawl started over it. Asia was arrested after a blasphemy accusation and her family had to leave the village. The family has been on the run since then and are scared of the worst.

‘I really love her and miss her presence,’ he said. ‘I cannot sleep at night as I miss her. I miss her smile; I miss everything about her. She is my soul mate. I cannot see her in prison. It breaks my heart. Life has been non-existent without her.

Visiting Asia in jail is difficult because of the risk and the cost. Ashiq Masih had to give up his job and now live on as low as Rs 400 per day.

He said: ‘I hope they feel guilt for what they have done. But I fear they don’t. The Maulvis (clerics) want her dead. They have announced a prize of Rs 10,000 to Rs 500,000 (£60 to £3,200) for anyone who kills Asia. They have even declared that if the court acquits her they will ensure the death sentence stands.

‘I am planning our protection. If she is set free I hope we’re moved to a safer country as Pakistan cannot protect her.
‘She’s not made any mistake. We all know she’s not committed any crime. We all know how Pakistan treats Christians. She was framed, she never committed any crime.

The case is still on hold in the Supreme Court and a hearing is expected later this month. Asia also has a Hadd punishment. This is a punishment according to the Holy Quran which asks for the character of the accused to be tested.

Husband Ashiq Masih claims she has never cried in front of him and is still hopeful for her release.
‘She says she even argues with the other inmates or guards if they say anything to her. She is not the coy type, she’s very bold. She counts the days that pass. Whenever I see her I take her dry fruits, especially almonds as she really likes them and new clothes.’
