LAHORE: The police headquarters superintendent requests a jail trial for Sawan Masih.
Along the lines of the details, Sawan Masih had been detained in Camp Jail, whilst the police headquarters superintendent has requested the Additional District and Session Judge Chaudhry Ghulam Murtaza to conduct a jail trial of Sawan Masih instead of a court trial.
The Superintendent Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, in an application to the Session Judge stated that extraordinary care needs to be taken as this case gave rise to the Badami Bagh arson. Moreover, in his petition he remarked that the prisoner should be provided fool proof security owing to the sensitivity of the issue. Sawan Masih has been detained on charges of alleged blasphemy.
The SP went on to state that Sawan had been kept at the Judicial lock up in the Camp jail and was presented before the court whenever deemed necessary nevertheless due to the delicacy of the matter the police needs to ensure his security while in prison. Ascertained of possible attack on Sawan the Court should therefore hold further proceedings of his trial in jail.
Subsequently, the Additional District and Session Judge Chaudhry Ghulam Murtaza conferred with District and Session Judge Nazir Ahmad Ganjana pursuing directions on SP Sukhera’s letter.
While previously, the police have detained Sawan Masih a 35 year old Christian man on account of possible blasphemy on 8th of March 2013.
