Court issues arrest warrants of seven witnesses in Shahbaz Bhatti murder case. The court ordered their arrest for not presenting themselves before the court. Shahbaz Bhatti’s murder case was heard by the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad, when judge adjourned the court proceedings till next month.
Two assassins sprayed the Christian minister’s car with gunfire, striking him at least eight times, before scattering pamphlets that described him as a “Christian infidel.” “I rushed out to find his body covered with blood. I said “uncle, uncle” and tried to take his pulse. But he was already dead,” Bhatti’s niece Marriam who was the first on the scene said.
During the case hearing, ATC Judge Sohail Akram expressed annoyance over the fact that the witnesses summoned by the court did not present themselves before the court. Judge Sohail Akram issued arrest warrants of the witnesses who did appear before the court.
The seven witnesses included ASI Rana Munawar, ASI Naveed Tahir, ASI Khalid Mehmood, ASI Amjab Majeed and three civilians including Amir Shahzad, Gul Sher and Akmal Bhatti. The hearing was postponed for December 7.
