Sindh High Court directs KMC to pay salaries of Christian employees before Christmas

Sindh High Court has directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the District Metropolitan Corporations to make sure that the salaries of Christian employees are paid before Christmas. Sindh High Court on Thursday, December 22 directed the concerned authorities during the hearing of a petition filed by the Sajjan Union.

Sindh High Court while hearing the petition against delay in the payment of salaries of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the District Metropolitan Corporations employees, said that salaries of all the Christian employees must be given before Christmas.

During the hearing the honorable court was informed that the inspection process of seven hundred and sixty one schoolteachers in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the District Metropolitan Corporations has been completed. It was further stated that the process for the male teachers of the Central district and teachers of the Korangi district has not been completed yet.

On the other hand, the shopkeepers claim nationwide sales to soar to nearly Rs20 billion as shopping spree ahead of Christmas and New Year. They said that shopping is in full swing as Christmas Day approaches nigh.

In this regard the All-Karachi Tajir Ittehad (AKTI) Chairman Atiq Mir said: “We expect a sales volume of Rs 8bn in Karachi and Rs 4bn in Lahore for ready made garments of children, sweaters, gents and ladies’ shoes, gift items, bangles, artificial jewelry and decoration.” He further explained that the demand for cakes also goes up remarkably, particularly a day before Christmas and on the eve of New Year, he added.
