Soran Singh murder: Killers of non-Muslims leaders always go unpunished, religious minorities grumble

Leaders from religious minorities criticize the government saying that killers of several non-Muslim leaders have gone unpunished up till now. This scenario greatly disturbs the religious minorities of the country, the twitchy leaders from minorities said while expressing grief and annoyance over the murder of Sikh MPA-Sardar Soran Singh.

Pakistani Christians affected by blast

Representatives of the several religious minorities gathered in order to condemn the unruly killing of Soran Singh. At this occasion, they demanded that government should take effective steps to enhance protection of religious minorities in the country. They also claimed that thus far, government or the legal authorities take no real action against the killers of majority of Non-Muslim leaders.

Sikh lawmaker, held the position of special assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on minorities’ affairs. His murder has generated sorrow amongst the religious minorities as he was held in high esteem by them primarily owing to his efforts to endorse interfaith harmony.

Furthermore, the representatives of the religious minorities urged the ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, to grant party ticket for the seat left vacant after Soran Singh’s killing to such a person, who could press forward with the deceased’s efforts to promote the interfaith harmony in a meticulous manner.

After being elected to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly on a reserved seat he embarked upon the policy of promoting interfaith harmony, and went on to take extra steps such as installing boxes in the streets to collect torn pieces of the sacred scriptures.

At this occasion, while talking to the media, Pastor Shehzad Murad expressed great admiration for Soran Singh and said that he was a very valiant and an honest man. He recalled that Soran Singh often participated in the functions of our Christian community and approached us every time; Christians came under attack by the terrorists.

Although, he continued to say the departed one belonged to Sikh community, he constantly made sure fair distribution of the funds allocated for repairs and reconstruction of places of worship belonging to the religious minorities in the province. “We think his murder is tantamount to the killing of humanity. It deprived our country of a sincere minority leader.”

MPA- Sardar Soran Singh a Sikh lawmaker was gunned down by unknown assailants on April 22, Friday evening, when he was returning home after attending a function in Buner District. The gunmen intercepted his car and opened indiscriminate fire, as a result of which he died on the spot.
