Street carnage in Stockholm has left at least 5 dead. Details emerged that a truck rammed into shoppers; plowing them. Three men were also seen jumping off the truck and opening fire on police who had surrounded the truck after it was hijacked. Police confirmed that the truck crashed into a group of people on the street outside a shopping centre.
The truck believed to have been stolen or hijacked, ran through the city centre shooting at and stabbing pedestrians. Hundreds of shoppers ran for their lives after the truck rammed into the corner building, injuring dozens. The driver was said by witnesses to be wearing a balaclava.
The incident took place at Ahlens, a department store in Klarabergsgatan. Witnesses say armed men were seen running into Stockholm’s Central railway station and opening fire. Reports are that two people were stabbed. The police have shut the station down.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven expressed doubts that the events surrounding the incident pointed out to a terrorist attack. He confirmed that one suspect has been arrested, in this connection. A radio reporter said that she had seen at least five dead bodies. Swedish police had confirmed that at least three people have been killed and eight were injured as result of the incident.
