LAHORE: The village of first Christian converts in East Punjab flooded as a result of recent monsoon rains.
The Pakistan People’s Party Minority Wing leader Napoleon Qayyum organized a ceremony celebrating the Minorites’Day on Sunday, 11th of August, 2013. In the ceremony, Napoleon Qayyum said that,” Zaffarwal, the village of Chaudhry Datt, who was the first man to convert in East Punjab in 1973, has been flooded.” During this ceremony special prayers were offered for the residents of the flood hit areas.
The Christian community in the ceremony also disclosed that Zafarwala in district Narowal- the village of the first Christian converts in east Punjab has been flooded as a result of recent monsoon rains. Community Development Initiative CDI – an NGO working for the Christian community, announced a relief package for the 1,300 affected families of Zafarwal. Zafarwal is capital of Zafarwal Tehsil situated in the Narowal District of Punjab.
Additionally, CDI President Asif Aqeel stated that,” they had collected the data of the flood victims of Narowal and would provide bags of 20 kg flour, 20 kg rice, two kg oil, two kg sugar, two kg tea and pulses to each family in the relief package and they would start distribution work from Tuesday in Zafarwal.”
The recent heavy rainfalls engulfed several localities in various districts of Punjab, Sindh and KPK activating the district administrations to declare emergency and allocate beds in hospitals to meet any emergent situation.
On the other hand, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PAKMET) has issued notification and warning of expected flood’s in this week specially from Monday 12th August 2013 to Wednesday 14th August 2013. According to the notification Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Kashmir will receive heavy rainfall during this week which may cause Heavy Flash Floods in various parts of the country.
