LONDON: UK to increase aid supplies to Iraq terming the situation as “deeply worrying.”
In the face of worsening situation for the displaced religious minorities at the hands of the IS jihadists, UK is to “step up” aid supplies at the same time send more “humanitarian advisers” to areas under threat from Islamist militants, No 10 has said.
A Downing Street spokesman stated the situation was “deeply worrying” but that it was likely some of the people who had been trapped on Mount Sinjar might have escaped off the mountain to the north.
Previously, a British military aircraft made the first drop of UK aid in Iraq. This aid package included 200 reusable water containers and 240 solar lanterns that can also recharge mobile phones. “People are doing what they can to offer aid,” says Times journalist Sara Williams who reported some eight kilometres from the IS front.
