UN accuses Islamic State jihadists of “ethnic cleansing.”
The United Nations state that the Islamic State executed up to 670 prisoners in Mosul, terming it as the worst recorded massacre committed by the jihadist group. The killings at Badoush prison in Mosul were part of a wider campaign of systematic “ethnic and religious cleansing” being conducted by IS across the country.
Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said,“Grave, horrific human rights violations are being committed daily by IS and associated armed groups. They are systematically targeting men, women and children based on their ethnic, religious or sectarian affiliation.”
Christians, Yazidis, Shias and Turkmen are among the minorities attacked by the militant group.
