Unchecked incidents of child abduction cast doubts on provincial government’s performance: Asif Sohail Khokhar Chairman Union Council Youhanabad

Asif Sohail Khokhar chairman Union Council 246 Youhanabad, Nishtar Town, Lahore has strongly condemned the inaction of police and Punjab government regarding alarmingly increased incidents of child abduction. In a span of 6 months some 657 children had been abducted, which renders the administration of the Punjab Government dubious.

He further added that child abduction is always condemnable, only the parents of the missing children can know the pain and agony resulted by the abductions. Abductions of children in such huge number is not an ordinary matter, it requires prompt and effective action in order to be thwarted.

Government needs to address the issue on urgent basis, he said. He further advocated for Rangers’ Operation in Punjab- terming it inevitable need of the hour. He urged the Punjab government to take fervent steps in order to hamper the kidnapping racket operating in Punjab.

Chairman UC Youhanabad, further pointed finger at the inaction of the Punjab police and Punjab government over rising scourge of kidnappings since last 6 months. He said that this is a question mark on the performance of the government. “This report portrays nil performance on behalf of police,” he said.

In compliance with media reports, at least 207 children have been abducted since January 2016 up till now. During a recent protest against child abduction in Lahore, Rawadar Tehreek’s Chairman Samson Salmat told, “The situation is alarming in Lahore due to the frequent incidents of abduction of children and adolescents and there is an atmosphere of terror particularly the Badami Bagh/ Data Nagar area of Lahore where almost 20 children were abducted just in July 2016 and among those 4 were found dead.”
