Vandals set fire to a church in Shahdara Town, Lahore


A church in Lahore’s Shahdara Town, was torched by vandals. The incident unfolded on April 15, Sunday when the under construction building of the church was set on fire. The church is situated in Paracha Colony, in Shahdara Town area. An FIR has been lodged in the local police, as the police conduct investigations into the incident.

In line with a report by human rights activist Khalid Shahzad at around 3 pm, local Christians observed that the Gospel Jesus Mission Ministry’s church had been torched. Every Sunday a prayer service is held in this church, the incident occurred after the Sunday service.

Pastor Yousaf, in charge of the church conducts regular Sunday service staring at 10 am till noon. After learning about the incident, Pastor Yousaf submitted an application at the Shahdara Town police station. Khalid Shahzad revealed that the forensic teams of police have started investigations. The church is under construction, and covers an area of about 5 marlas.

It was further stated that the main gate of the church is 8 feet high and was locked at the time of the incident. A Christian family resides to the left side of the church. Soon after the incident was brought to the police station, the police acted swiftly and sent investigation tams to the scene.

Church burnt in Lahore

Khalid Shahzad detailed that he along with Pastor Fareed Anthony and Hizkiel Bhatti accompanied Pastor Yousaf when he went to the Shahdara Town police Station. There are at least seven churches in the Paracha Colony. Majority of the Christian residents of this neighborhood make both ends meet by taking up menial jobs.
