Saddique Azam

A Christian Head Master who was tortured for his faith is being pressurised by the authorities to withdraw his complaint against the Muslim teachers who had beaten him.

According to details, Saddique Azam, resident of Kasur District was appointed as Head Master of the Government Primary School Pernawa, however some of the Muslim teachers from the same school were not pleased by his appointment and beat him brutally.

After the incident an FIR was filed against the Muslim teachers who had attacked him however so far police has not taken any action against the culprits. It has been learnt from Pakistan Christian Post that the three Muslim teachers who tortured Saddique Azam were voters of PML- N leader Rana Iqbal who is Speaker of Punjab Assembly.

PCP reports that Rana Iqbal had directed the police not to take action against the alleged Muslim culprits. Moreover, rather than taking legal action against the culprits, police is threatening and harassing the victimized Christian Head Master Saddique Azam and his family.

After the incident, Saddique Azam has recommenced his duties as a Head Master but there are possibilities of further attacks as culprits are on the loose. The incident reportedly took place on October 5, when a bunch of religiously fanatic Muslim teachers who were working under Saddique Azam’s authority launched a verbal attack at the Christian victim. “You are a Christian and Choora so, how can you be Headmaster and our senior” they said while hurling insults at him. After this they started beating Saddique violently.

These radical teachers also pressurised Saddique Azam since past two month to quit his job as a Head Teacher and hand over the charge to a Muslim teacher. They threatened him of severe consequences if he failed to comply with their demands. However, Saddique did not give up and did not resign form his job and kept performing his duties.
