Colin David was born in Karachi in 1937. He received his art education at the Punjab University, Lahore. After studying MFA from the Punjab University in 1961, he was awarded a scholarship for post-graduate studies at the Slade School of Art, London.
At Slade School he was instructed by Sir William Coldstream, a renowned artist of that time. In 1962, he returned to Pakistan and joined the faculty of the Fine Arts Department of the Punjab University, and served till 1964.
Afterwards, he joined the National College of Arts, and worked for over two decades. In 1970 his first solo exhibition which was a collection of figure studies in oils painted with great luminosity, was held at ‘The Gallery’ in Karachi. In the following years, due to restrictions on art, he held exhibitions at his home or private spots. After a thriving career, on Monday, the 25th of February 2008, Pakistan lost one of her illustrious and revered artists when Colin breathed his last.
