There has been much said about the plight of Syrian refugees who risk their lives by taking route to Europe via waters, however at the backdrop lie the bloodcurdling scenes of crucifixions, beheading, abduction, scourging and rape of Christians.
All the horrors which Christians of Iraq and Syria have gone through are at the hands of none other than the ultra-extremist terror group ISIS. The exact number of Christians who have been martyred by Islamic State along with thousands upon thousands who were forced to depart from the prehistoric Christian communities in Western Iraq and North Eastern Syria is hard to figure out.
It was ever since, ISIS took control that they presented Christians with clear options; convert to Islam, pay the Jaziya or die. This is as some term it a systematic genocide which has been largely ignored by the West. Some of the leaders of the church are continuously raising voice over the issue of negligence of dilemma of the Christian refugees by the Western countries.
While many organisations are taking the matters into their hands, trying desperately to save the Christians still stuck amidst life-threatening situations in Iraq and Syria, the Barnabas Fund, has managed to transfer some 158 Syrian Christians to Poland, where they are living in peace.
Patrick Sookhdeo- Founder and International Director of the Barnabas Fund who keeps visiting the ISIS struck areas of Syria portrayed the true situation faced by Christians. He said, “It is like going back 1,000 years seeing the barbarity that Christians are having to live under. I think we are dealing with a group which makes Nazism pale in comparison and I think they have lost all respect for human life.
“Crucifying these people is sending a message and they are using forms of killing which they believe have been sanctioned by Sharia law. For them what they are doing is perfectly normal and they don’t see a problem with it. It is that religious justification which is so appalling.”
He further clarified that the areas which are under the control if the terror group ISIS, Christians are being singled out by these jihadists. They gladly crucify, behead, rape and subject them to forced conversion. “Christian children are also being sold as slaves.” Sookhdeo added.
In the meantime, while a methodical genocide of Christians is taking place, western countires including the UK and U.S. are over looking the plight of Christians. Like several Christian leaders Patrick Sookhdeo, also accuses that since Britain has announced to take in 20,000 Syrian refugees which will be unintentionally an obvious unfairness against the victimized Christian communities in the ancient lands; as these are the people who have been targeted the most by the Islamic State militias.
“The British government has said it will take 20,000 refugees and we have said, ‘Will you not take some Christians?’ But we have had no reply.” the Barnabas head stated. “What David Cameron is doing, we believe, is unfair. He has said he will go to the camps to get the refugees, but the problem is that the Christians don’t like to live in the camp.
“What they prefer to do is to live in church halls or else with families and the reason is that it is safer for them. What we are saying to the Government is that you need a broader based approach,” he asserted.
