The parable of “Prodigal Son” is not something most of us are unfamiliar with. In Luke chapter 15, Lord Jesus Christ explains the God’s reaction when we return from being lost in sin. From verse 11 onwards, Lord Jesus tells us about a son who has audaciously insulted his father.
Lord Jesus clearly hints at the depths to which our own misuse of freedom will bring us. Lord Jesus clearly tells that if we are bent on leaving God, things will go extremely bad for us. All we will face is hatred, rejection and humiliation in this hard-hearted world.
The parable teaches us the farther we get from our Father’s loving care, the worse off we will be. Nonetheless, there is still hope for those who have drifted away from the Source of Life, and our best course is to return to God our Father and seek His forgiveness.
The parable teaches us that our Heavenly Father will never treat us like a hired servant. We are His sons and we will never lose this position. Whenever we return to God, our Father will celebrate it. In verse 24 the Father says, “For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.” This shows us God the Father’s reaction when we His children return from being lost in sin.
