DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least three security personnel were killed after a raid on a Pakistan Army checkpoint in South Waziristan.
According to security officials, five security personnel were killed as a result of two back to back incidents including a latest raid carried out by terrorists on a Pakistan Army checkpoint and an exchange of fire between Army and terrorist.
In a recent incident, earlier today on Tuesday August 25, 2015, a cluster of terrorists attacked a checkpoint in the Pir Ghar area, which is adjacent to Shawal Valley. As a result of this incident, at least three security personnel were killed according to the security officials in the area.
A security official told Reuters that, “Militants attacked with heavy weapons, including Rocket Propelled Grenades and machine guns. Forces replied to the attack we are checking for the militants’ casualties.”
Previously, on Monday, August 24, two security forces personnel were killed in an exchange of fire with militants in the Shawal valley. The martyrs include a lieutenant colonel, the security officials stated. While as a result of cross fire by Pakistan Army at least six militants were killed.
Pakistan Army stepped up the military offensive Operation Zarb-e-Azb, against the terrorists in North Waziristan. However, during a new phase the Pakistani military initiated a ground offensive in North and South Waziristan.
