Zarb-e-Azb synopsis: More than 3500 militants killed, 300 Pakistan Army officers martyred

National Assembly Standing Committee briefed about the progress of military offensive Zarb-e-Azb.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence was informed today September 3, that so far more than 3500 terrorists have been killed during military operation Zarb-e-Azb whereas, 300 Pakistan Army officials have embraced martyrdom during ongoing operation in the North Waziristan tribal region.

The meeting was headed by Rohail Asghar, the Chairman of National Assembly body on defence, at the Parliament House. The meeting was also attended by Defence Secretary Aalam Khattak and top military officials. During the meeting the NA committee was briefed that Pakistan military forces have taken over the control of Shawal mountains despite the fact that ground troops and Pakistan Air Force jets are targeting terrorist hideouts and will continue to do so till area is purged of the insurgents.

Zarb-e-Azb has been intensified in Shawal valley in May this year. The committee was also informed that more than 60,000 intelligence based operation were conducted across the country whilst several terrorists networks were busted.

After the meeting, while talking to media persons, Sheikh Rohail Aghar said that return and rehabilitation of temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) will be a prime task for the authorities.

He said, “Terrorists have returned to Afghanistan where they are joining the Islamic State (IS) group. Necessary steps are required to counter threat emanating from this group. Several local Taliban commanders have pledged their allegiance to ISIS and their eradication is vital too.”
